Dubai is the most populous among the seven emirates and the fastest growing in the United Arab Emirates. It has become home to most innovative construction projects of big international companies. The construction boom since the 1990s has catapulted the UAE tourism industry into becoming a main source of income and a major generator of employment opportunities in the hospitality sector for both local and foreign nationals seeking tourism-related jobs. The unparalleled rising popularity of Dubai has made the tourism sector experience phenomenal growth.
Some of the leading international hotels opened their branches primarily in Dubai, opening up hospitality jobs such as those in the areas of accommodation, travel, transportation, car rental, tourist guiding and more. The Dubai leadership is keen on making hospitality an affordable option for people from all over the world.
Dubai boasts of many tourist attractions, including its record-breaking edifices famous not only for their beauty and opulence but also for setting new records, such as its Burj Khalifa being the tallest ever man-made structure, a feat which which has contributed to the city's drawing power towards both tourists and foreign investors.
Overall, the UAE's ambitious tourism objectives are backed up by the growing number of hotels and other tourism attractions and amenities. There are now hundreds of hotels in the different emirates with large concentration in Dubai. Some known best hotels aside from Burj Al Arab are: the Grand Hyatt Dubai, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Emirates Towers, The Fairmont Dubai, Al Qasr Madinat Jumeirah, Emirates Tower, Hotel Atlantis and Palm Jumeirah, among others.
Global firms mostly hold their business meetings, shareholder discussions, and annual conferences in Dubai, using the infrastructure facilities of the city with the world-class amenities and services available 24/7 offered by the hotels.
One aspect of the tourism scenario in the area is the so-called corporate hospitality. This simply refers to innovative methods and strategies towards winning and retaining clients. Clients must be made to feel especial, able to bask in the warmth of Dubai's brand of hospitality. Among the most preferred hospitality packages used by business owners are the following: sports hospitality packages, corporate entertainment packages, non-sports hospitality package, corporate holiday packages, travel and festival packages, and many others.
There are lots of job opportunities for professionals looking for hospitality jobs in Dubai. Jobs in hotels of the management and supervisory levels and those of frontline nature such as front desk personnel require good English communication skills, along with a working knowledge of the native language. Some of these positions are the following: hotel manager, banquet manager, concierge, front office staff, and more. Candidates for these posts will need to have especial qualifications and experiences for these. Applicants for higher position in the hospitality job preferably have three years or more working experience. Some other job openings in this sector are for these positions: executive chef, assistant chef/cook, kitchen porter, chambermaid, driver, head waiter, waiter, gardener, bellboy, head housekeeper, housekeeper, and the like.
In the case of tour operators and cruise liner operators here are some of the common job vacancies: cruise operators, front office agents, airport concierge, airlines, tour guides, host, hostess, travel consultant, travel agents, event manager, reservation agents, cabin crew, tour manager, event manager, etc.
There are many other types of employment in the travel and tourism industry, including those that have to do with staffing for bars, casinos, amusement centers and resorts. Managers, supervisors and staff in Dubai's hospitality sector generally come with attractive salaries and benefits. Working conditions, whether in hotels or resorts or airlines, especially for the big companies, are generally pleasant. Those holding managerial positions will have to work eight or nine hours per day, while professionals in other positions may be required to work for longer hours. Disregarding the number of hours work, jobs in Dubai's hospitality sector generally offer enjoyment and satisfaction because these provide avenues for social interaction with clients in different cultures that offer the development of good social values.
