1. Resume. Start searching job with a professionally build resume, your first impression makes lot of difference. An impressive resume works than a lousy resume. Keep some time to build a resume that attracts the recruiter at first site. Some tips:
• Make a good career summary that makes the recruiter to get a quick idea of your background.
• Make it user-friendly, neat and clean with 2-3 pages.
• Keep two lines of description about the company, your designation, period of work.
• Visa status is important, mention your Visa details like, Free zone visa, Employment with release, Husbands sponsorship, students visa, Visit etc).
• It’s funny to see your unprofessional photo in the resume, Unless you have professional looking photo better not to put it.
2. Sources to apply for the job. Most of the companies in UAE hire through recruitment agencies and job portals, Big and government firms move for newspaper job ads to find the right talent. Like Dubai water and electricity authority, they have a good career site and efficient recruitment team and do the hiring by themselves. Small and medium sized companies hire through classified ads in newspapers and classified websites. The most popular jobsites are www.bayt.com, www.monstergulf.com, www.naukrigulf.com, upload your resume in these websites and check for job openings daily. Refer gulf news and Khaleej times they have job ads on most of the days except Friday and Saturday.
3. Build and Use your Network of Contacts. Referrals and networking has a good place for getting job .Take advantage of all the networks and contacts, this will not only help you to get the job alerts but also end up with a job offer. Develop Professional networks and Alumni contacts this helps when you look for a change.
4. Give Emphasis on your credentials and not for the grammar. As we all know the most important aspect of interviewing is giving detail. When the candidate as a speaker of English as a second language, you might be shy about saying complicated things. However, this is absolutely necessary as the employer is looking for an employee who knows his or her job. If you provide detail, the interviewer will know that you feel comfortable in that job. Don't worry about making mistakes in English. It is much better to make simple grammar mistakes and provide detailed information about your experience than to say grammatically perfect sentences without any real content. UAE never ask you the percentage of marks but they ask you 'what you deliver' and 'what you done with your old company'.
5. Keep your salary part last. Be realistic on salary side, that periods are over where you find shining 5 digits salary in construction and real estate sector a result of its bumble economy. But you will still have value if you are experienced and skills that UAE is looking for. Fresh graduates, accept the salary that makes you to manage your stay with some savings, you have a bright future here. Select the company that give career opportunities than salary because your future will reward you. Keep in mind that UAE has some restrictions in changing jobs so think before you take a decision. Don’t think that up on getting a job I can move to other company this will not work always.
6. Interview Tips. I had mentioned a detailed write up on interview preparations in job hunting support, but some quick tips will help you.
• Prepare before any interview, study your resume, job and company.
• Avoid casual clothes.
• Keep your mobile switched off and avoid frequent looks to your watch.
• Greets the interviewers and thank them at the end.
7. Follow up. Be aggressive in this, don’t wait the company to call you. You can call them if you dint hear from them. This makes a rapport with the company and chances are there even they consider you with some other suitable openings. This never means you need to irritate the HR Executive to make her shout at you.
