So, you want to work in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after hearing good stories from people who have gone or worked there? You must have heard about bright employment prospects and liberal working and living conditions in that part of the world. The most popular destinations where UAE is concerned are Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the well-developed among the seven emirates. But the five other emirates will be just as promising in the years to come, one after another, following UAE’s development blueprint.
But what sorts of jobs await expatriates and workers in the United Arab Emirates?
At the onset of the 2000s, many of the jobs in the UAE were created by the construction boom which was generally fast-paced. Can a landmark edifice be put up in less than three months? Can several building erected all in a breeze get immediately equipped with the world’s state-of the-art technology to create intelligent buildings?
The answer is “yes” to both, and the keys are “a good plan and a good manpower base.” So, the emirates opened their doors even wider to foreign labor and foreign technology. The world’s greatest technologies were brought in, and specialists were needed to be able to put these in place and make them work. Thus, there was a demand boom for highly-specialized services in information and communication technology back then, and surveying the emirates’ requirements 7 - 10 years after, the doors to job opportunities for ICT specialists remain wide open. The specific skill sets may have changed; however, as they evolved toward the demand for web developers, web marketers and graphic artists, to service the needs of the local businesses and the international companies that chose to locate in Dubai and some other parts. Now the aim is beyond creating intelligent buildings because that has already been quite attained as a norm. It is now more for business operations and promotions related ICT skill sets.
Are architects and engineers and construction workers still in demand?
Yes, after UAE braved what the 2007 economic challenges dealt, construction and development continued in their bullish trajectory. Current employment opportunity listings in the UAE include a healthy demand for engineers of all kinds. The demand for architects was higher in the late 1900s and the early part of the 2000s. The demand for engineers remains high as well as for surveyors and estimators. The demand is not quite confined to Dubai these days; Abu Dhabi lists great employment opportunities for these types of skills. Indeed, the other emirates are forecast to soon follow suit.
