Saying that network is essential to an organization means a lot to network administrators. Administering and maintaining a network is the job of a network administrator. It is their responsibility to design and install the most appropriate network for the clients. To be able to satisfy their responsibilities, network administrators are expected to understand the basic networking.
 
IT certifications help IT professionals such as network administrator, system administrator, information system administrator, network operations specialist to prove their expertise in using different techniques in networking. Having earned certifications, IT professionals can show customer, colleagues and employers that they are committed to advancing their skills. Here are helpful certifications for network administrators.
 
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA Network+ proves the network administrator’s competency in installing and configuring, managing, maintaining and troubleshooting basic network infrastructure. Candidates for CompTIA Network+ are recommended to have academic training or at least nine months of experience in network support.
 
Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA)
The Microsoft Certified System Administrator MCSA helps network administrators to prove their expertise in managing and troubleshooting network environments based on Windows Server 2003 operating system. To be a candidate for MCSA, one should have at least one up to twelve months of experience in working with desktop operating system.
 
Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE)
Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) shows employers the network administrator’s skills in designing, implementing and administering infrastructures for businesses based on Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2000. Candidates for MCSE should have one to two years experience in designing, configuring and maintaining network system.
 
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) helps network administrators prove to employers their knowledge and skills in installing, configuring, operating and troubleshooting medium sized routes and switched networks.
 
Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security)
The Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security) helps associate-level network administrators to demonstrate the skills required to develop security infrastructure, recognize threats and diminish security threats. CCNA Security emphasizes network administrator’s expertise in security technologies, installing, monitoring and troubleshooting network devices to maintain security.
 
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)
The Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) validates the network administrator’s expertise in installing, operating and troubleshooting branch network and basic network security for small enterprise. CCENT certifies the skills required for entry-level network position. CCENT is the first step of many successful networking professionals. This certification can lead to CCNA which covers medium sized branch network.
 
We cannot deny that attaining certifications is an advantage to every network administrator’s career. Every certification shows the network administrator’s proficiency to networking techniques. These certifications help managers in knowing the knowledge and skills of a network administrator. In choosing which certification to take, you should take into consideration your goals as well as the career path you would like to pursue.
