Getting government jobs in Dubai/UAE

The government of the United Arab Emirates is making every effort to pump-prime its economy in order to provide more jobs for its citizens, the disabled ones among them taken into consideration, along with foreign workers and professionals who possess competence in skills which the different departments and agencies of government require. Top priority is, of course, employing the nationals who have completed their education.

The government invests in programs both for their contribution to the UAE economy and to the generation of additional employment opportunities. This is one resolution in support of the Emiratization program, giving priority to employing Emiratis in the government and reducing unemployment in the country. Though the government is actively implementing Emiratization, it still encourages expatriates from all over the world to become part of the working force to fill in job vacancies—primarily in the private sector and, to some extent, in government. The UAE has lots of job opportunities to offer foreign workers in both sectors. The UAE offers workers, both local and foreign, tax-free salaries with provision for promotion of those with right qualifications and experiences. A candidate must thus establish familiarity with the UAE labor law and their rights as employees.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs based in Dubai sets the standards of qualifications and training required to get employed in any position in government service. It actively encourages nationals and skilled expatriates to work in the government sector.

Interested parties can go through the list of vacancies and send their application online through the Dubai Government Centralized Job Portal. This is the centralized job portal for the list of vacancies in all government departments.

Another way of doing government job search is by visiting the government entities’ websites and checking job opportunity listings under their Career Section where resumes by those desiring to vie for any vacant position can be uploaded. The website Jobs Abu Dhabi may also serve as an option. This is a site that connects employers and jobseekers who meet the employment needs of offices with qualification requirements posted alongside job listings. There is a link for the uploading of applicants’ resumes in this portal. Jobseekers can also browse the UAE Dubai Jobs.com site for accessing job opportunities, both government and private. It is here where updated listings of jobs available in the UAE are posted. Other search engines useful to jobseekers interested in government job opportunities include Current vacancies in government utility and Careers at Dubai Holding.

The procedures for seeking employment in the private and public sectors are parallel. A common basic step is to secure requirements such as contracts, visa, and other documents required by position applied for.

In the United Arab Emirates, foreign workers are not immigrants but are instead temporary workers who are willing to leave the country once the contract ends. Foreign expatriates rarely obtain a citizenship. If the UAE government accepts an applicant’s services, the same contract and work visa as those of private-sector expatriates are issued. These can be renewed depending on the professional qualifications and the quality of performance rendered in the field of work assignment.

Incoming foreign expatriates accepted to be part of the ranks of the UAE government bureaucracy should, as early as possible, familiarize themselves with the Government Human Research Law for Dubai Government Employees. This is where they will learn about their rights, obligations, and benefits as government employees. For this, they must surf Dubai Government Human Resources Law No (14) of 2010 for Dubai Government Employees. This will ensure better performance on the job and better protection of their rights as foreign expatriates in the service of the UAE government.
