Hi,

First of all I would like to thank you for giving so many important informations. I have completed my post graduation in physiotherapist and right now working in India. Can you please tell me how do I obtain the Licence for working in Dubai and how many years of experience would be required in my case. I have an experience of one year, in the same field, prior to the post graduation. Also, I would like to know about how I can work in some private clinic and then later on apply for the test. Can I get work permit without the licence if I choose to work with any private clinic to start with.

Will be a great help if you can take out time to reply to my queries.

Thank you very much.

regards,
Vaibhav Syal

Hi Vaibhav,
Physiotherapist need to get the licence from the Health ministry to work in government hospitals and other reputed hospitals in UAE. You can try for all the three licence ,moh, dha (Refer to the first page of this forum to find more details and contact details of MOH and DHA

have a look at the below link for the details.
moh
http://www.moh.gov.ae/en/Page_953.aspx

dha
http://edohms.dohms.gov.ae/MPT/Main/professional.aspx

If you are a diploma holder in physiotherapy the duration of that, not less than 2 years.
Experience required
Required minimum 1 year of experience after B.Sc. or Diploma) [if the experience is from the private sector, it should be at least 2 years (please check the experience required as this may change with out prior notice also)

Recently Ministry of health issued a circular and declared illegal to work with out a licence. For doctors this is very strict and violations may put them in troubles. But earlier many physiotherapist works in small clinics and later apply for the ministry licence. For this, you need to find a sponsor who can support you with a job and later apply for the MOH or DOH exam. DHA is always checking hospitals, medical centers and clinics because working with out licence is illegal.

Hi Sini,
I am not able to find a clear information on the exact syllabus or the questions they may ask. Based on the information from previous candidates your area of expertise, experience may influence the interviews while asking questions. I will advice you to prepare well on all the areas of nursing focusing your expertise. The exam will be in the form of Viva.

Dear Mr. abraham.

thank you so much for your very helping blog.

I wonder if HAAD allows me to work in Dubai?

and if I applied to DHA, does it take the same time to approve the application (4-6 weeks) or more, is the application process in DHA is faster than that of the HAAD?

I am short of time here in Abu Dhabi and have 3 weeks left before I need to leave the UAE. If I applies to DHA at 14 -09-2010, when it is possible to date the interview with DHA?

thank you for your reply.

Dear Mr.Abraham,

I'm a MOH license holder as a pharmacist and as i'm willing to relocate to Dubai i have given my DOH exam on 29th August in which i was not sucessful( lost by 1 mark). I'm aware that one can only give his second attempt after 60 days after the first attempt. I've applied for DOh for the second time and to my surprise they have increased the exam fees from Dhs 160.00 which i paid for my first attempt ( I applied through our branch pharmacy in Dubai). Today i got a call saying that my application got approved and i need to pay the following fees
1) During the application submission i was asked to pay AED 110.
2) AED 700 - 1000 dhs as verification (Not sure what type of verification as my professional & work experience certificates are already attested by UAE Ministry of External affairs)
3) AED 1010 as exam fee

For my first attempt, all together i paid only AED 160.00

Do you have any idea of such a fee hike lately? I've checked the DHA website and couldnt find any information about this hike.Appreciate your feedback on this.

Thanks

DHA Dubai- New licence criteria for dentists, physicians 2010
by abraham » Monday, 13th September 2010 02:40 am

26 July 2010 (With referance to Khaleej Times)
Dubai Health Authority DHA

(DHADHA) have laid down the new licence criteria for medical practitioners.
Dentists will have to go through proficiency in English and practical tests while physicians will be required to undergo surgical skills tests once the new regulations are rolled out.

The Health Regulation Department at the authority earlier this month distributed a draft document detailing new regulations for dentistry, seeking comments on the subject.

The document details the requirements for three different levels of dentistry including for interns, general and specialist dentists.

The new regulations will require candidates to be proficient in English language skills as many medical graduates come from a non-English speaking background and the level of English competency varies greatly, according to the document. "A high level of English language proficiency is essential to enable practitioners communicate with patients, other doctors and health professionals, and for the maintenance of professional standards," reads the document. The authority has approved two language tests as proof including Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

According to the document, all candidates will be required to attend and pass an evaluation of their competency to practise though it says that the competency assessment framework is still being developed and will be published in due course.

The dentist licensure guidelines regulations are based on similar
ones being followed by Dubai Healthcare City and Health Authority of Abu Dhabi.

Dr Essa Kazim, CEO of Health Policy and Strategy at the authority had said that the changes were being brought about to "ensure patient safety and see if the surgeon or physician is fit to practise."

Last month, the authority sounded a warning to health professionals after discovering that several were operating without a licence. Health professionals were warned of being blacklisted as well as being fined Dh5,000 if found working without a card.

Good day Mr. Abraham,

Im a registered nurse here in Philippines. I have read all previous post regarding application for DOH exam for nurses.
Question, according to this site, http://edohms.dohms.gov.ae/MPT/Main/professional.aspx,, General Requirements... Registered Nurse ... "Recent practice - You must have practiced as a Registered Nurse at least 450 hrs in last 3 years (exemption New Graduates)",

my sister is a newly grad and fresh board passer in our country, does she qualifies the exemption with regards to clinical experience?

i graduated last 2009 and so passed the licensure exam the same year,am I also exempted to the clinical practice since 450hours are required for the past 3YEARS?

if not, I had 3 months clinical experience. Will these qualifies me to take the exam? What if i failed to present experience certificate? because I only brought with me the experience certificate without attested by UAE embassy? will they still allow me to take the exam??

and what is recent good standing certificate form the medical council? am i subjected to pass this? how about my sister?

please answer my queries. U have answered every questions post. Please include mine.. Thank very much sir..

hopingly yours,

3 different Health Ministries functioning in UAE,
1)MOH which is Ministry of Health passing the MOH you are allowed to work in 5 emirates but not in Dubai or Abudhabi.
2)DHA - Dubai Health Authority (previously known as DOHMS - Department of Health and Medical Services) DHA registration is required for working in Dubai.
3) GAH, which is General Authority of Health Exam or usually know as MOH/Abu Dhabi.

So here's my situation. I am a US citizen and I received my medical degree from the Philippines. I finished all four years of medical school including Junior Internship (clerkship). Unfortunately, I didn't complete post grad internship thinking I could take on the USMLE and get in to a Residency. That was wishful thinking! Now I am left with an ECFMG certificate having passed USMLE Steps 1, step 2CK and CS with no where to go. But I have not given up. I will practice medicine no matter where I end up. So here's my question...I understand that with USMLE steps 1 and 2CK/cs under my belt I don't have to take the written exam (only the oral interview.) However, which physician grade am I qualified for? (given that I only finished Junior Internship) Do I apply as an intern or as a starting GP? Okay another thing...I am in the process of filing my application with DOH. How do I go about paying for the credentialing fee of Dhs 110 if I am here in California? Can I pay through the UAE embassy in Washington DC? Can someone please throw some light to my situation?

[3.4 Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives who hold current registration in
United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia or New

countries but can demonstrate English language competence will be exempted
from the competency based assessment requirement and will automatically be
eligible for primary source verification in regards to the processing of their

I am a Nurse from the Philippines, I recently took and passed the NCLEX through California State Board of Nursing in April. I am working on endorsing my NCLEX PASS LETTER to Arkansas and will get a US license when they process my application. My question is based on the quote above, when I get my Arkansas License and I go to Dubai, it means that I'm exempted from taking the DOH exam? It says as long as able to demonstrate English Language Competency, how will that be determined? Do I have to take the IELTS? Or will the DOH staff just interview me to test my English competency?

Also, when I get my Arkansas license, will I need to have it authenticated by DFA and attested by the UAE embassy in the Philippines like my PRC credentials?

I'm hoping someone can answer my questions, thank you very much.

I have done MBBS+3 years clinical experience (including house job). Can I apply for UAE licensing exam?

My second question is what the pay offered to a simple GP of my calibre if suppose I pass the licensing exam...

Looking forward for your response

Have a look at the below link for the evaluation grade

Its really hard to comment on the salary side at this moment in UAE for any profession.

Dear Abraham,

Your forum is really informative... keep up the good work.. ... I am a Dentist and a Sri Lankan national.. I got my degree from pakistan in 2007... I would appreciate it if you could provide me with some information..

1) In order to work in Dubai, do I have to pass only an oral exam (as you have mentioned in a post last year) or has the system changed?
2) I dont have an internship so what is the experience requirement?
3) And in order to work in the whole of UAE, which exam would I have to sit for and what are the requirements?

Dear Abraham,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply... really appreciate it... Just a few more clarifications if you don't mind..

1) I am a Sri Lankan national residing in Sri Lanka, but my degree is from Pakistan...It is difficult for me to go to Pakistan to get my documents attested..where else can I get my documents attested?
2) Is the requirement for the DOH (dubai exam) the same as the rest? as I read somewhere that 5 years experience is required to work in Dubai?

Thank you very much for your time and help
Hathim
