Study and Work in Dubai/UAE
Welcome to Dubai” the most exciting city of Desert”.
Beforehand people were rushing to Dubai only for job because of the potential to earn money than other countries. Dubai always welcomes skilled and semiskilled workers to its core. After education most of the engineers or MBA’s fly to Dubai to search for a job. And there was a trend to finish basic education and move to UAE and get a driver’s license from there. UAE Driving license is an advantage in some jobs and for sales job, it is necessary.
Now this trend turned to” work and study in Dubai”. New generation has realized the opportunities of a student in Dubai. The Universities in Dubai is located in Knowledge Village and Academic City. Many recognized universities are there, American University and University of Wollongong (Australian University in Dubai) are the famous and two attractive foreign Universities in Dubai.
Till 2007, UAE govt. was allowing students to work full time but now the rule has been changed. Now student visa holders are not allowed to work in UAE, there are lot many companies recruiting students for internships. But there are companies employing students visa holders without the knowledge of government. An advantage for a student is he/she can apply for a job on student visa and can attend the interviews. If selected by the company, the labour department or University will not be against to change your student visa to employment. There is no chance for rejection of your visa if your medical is success. Another advantage of studying in Dubai/UAE is most of the colleges have evening classes and it is easy to balance the work and study.
Advantages of Studying in Dubai
Expense: Expense of a student is very less as compared to Europe or other Asian countries as well as you gain a recognized certificate and quality of education with great experience of multi culture.
Accommodation: It’s the most expensive than other living expenses such as food and transport. Still a student can manage it through sharing accommodation (share with family accommodation or share with friends or you can go for bed space, which costs less). The rental range may depend upon the location and number of people sharing the accommodation. Most of the Universities in UAE are providing accommodation for students but rent is higher as compared to outside anyhow through college accommodation students might get transportation, internet and other facilities than a private accommodation.
Transportation: A minimum charge of AED 2/- for public transport to travel anywhere in Dubai. Taxis charge you a fixed pick up rate and kilometer charge.
Shopping & Food: Dubai is a shopping city the expense depends upon your style of living – your taste in shopping, food and entertainments. You can bargain with most of the street vendors, the discount fares come with less rate and good shopping experience.

Dear Nahal,
It’s a wise decision in my opinion. I did my Masters from University of Wollongong in Dubai and was working with a company as Senior HR Officer. If I say, it’s a best place than any other country for a student. I hope you are looking for a PG course. Here most of the Universities have classes in the evening that also once or twice in a week. So you get enough time to work and save.
UAE is a place where you get maximum exposure and you get better placement. Until 2007 last, UAE labor law allowed students to work on student visa. Law was allowed to do internships and part time jobs. Most of the students were doing fulltime junior positions on student visa. Now the rule has changed, students are not allowed to work legally in UAE. But we can see so many companies call students visa for fresher positions. But if labor catches that anyone work on another visa other than employment will be fined to the company. But it’s happening very rarely. You don’t need to worry about it because students are allowed to search for a job and if you are placed then visa can be transferred to employment. Student visa is a transferable visa.
About Universities there are lot many universities you can see in internet. University Of Wollongong in Dubai, where I studied, you get a good experience and a quality of education. And the University is giving chances for students to work with them. If you need any assistance for admission or more information about the admission procedure, feel free to contact me.
The following are some Universities in Dubai;
University of Wollongong www.uowdubai.ac.ae
American University in Dubai www.aud.edu
The British University in Dubai www.buid.ac.ae
Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani www.bitsdubai.com
European University College Brussels www.ehsal-dubai.net
UAE University www.uaeu.ac.ae
Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology www.szabist.edu.pk/
Hope this information would help you.
Good luck.

Student Visa and Labour law UAE
by Archana » Wednesday, 30th September 2009 05:27 am
Student Visa and Labour law UAE
All visas in UAE are easier to get if you pass medical test. For getting a student visa you must satisfy the requirements of concern University. The requirements for student’s visa might be different depending upon the university. But it isn't hard to get a student visa because you are sponsored by university. Your University itself shall guide the information and requirements for visa.
A student can work in UAE but not on student visa. A student visa is transferable visa; it can easily transfer to employment. Some University allows students to start work only after first semester. To get a job is depends on your caliber and the University will give you full support. Most of the Universities in UAE have student service departments, Student Leadership Opportunities, Personal Counselling and career development sections etc to support students. As a student you must take the advantage of all support services from your university; it helps you to improve.
