Work and study in UAE- Colleges/Courses in UAE

Discussions on working and studying in UAE, Reviews on colleges, Courses in UAE part time jobs for students, Student visa etc.

Study and Work in Dubai/UAE

Welcome to Dubai” the most exciting city of Desert”.

Beforehand people were rushing to Dubai only for job because of the potential to earn money than other countries. Dubai always welcomes skilled and semiskilled workers to its core. After education most of the engineers or MBA’s fly to Dubai to search for a job. And there was a trend to finish basic education and move to UAE and get a driver’s license from there. UAE Driving license is an advantage in some jobs and for sales job, it is necessary.

Now this trend turned to” work and study in Dubai”. New generation has realized the opportunities of a student in Dubai. The Universities in Dubai is located in Knowledge Village and Academic City. Many recognized universities are there, American University and University of Wollongong (Australian University in Dubai) are the famous and two attractive foreign Universities in Dubai.

Till 2007, UAE govt. was allowing students to work full time but now the rule has been changed. Now student visa holders are not allowed to work in UAE, there are lot many companies recruiting students for internships. But there are companies employing students visa holders without the knowledge of government. An advantage for a student is he/she can apply for a job on student visa and can attend the interviews. If selected by the company, the labour department or University will not be against to change your student visa to employment. There is no chance for rejection of your visa if your medical is success. Another advantage of studying in Dubai/UAE is most of the colleges have evening classes and it is easy to balance the work and study.

Advantages of Studying in Dubai

Expense: Expense of a student is very less as compared to Europe or other Asian countries as well as you gain a recognized certificate and quality of education with great experience of multi culture.

Accommodation: It’s the most expensive than other living expenses such as food and transport. Still a student can manage it through sharing accommodation (share with family accommodation or share with friends or you can go for bed space, which costs less). The rental range may depend upon the location and number of people sharing the accommodation. Most of the Universities in UAE are providing accommodation for students but rent is higher as compared to outside anyhow through college accommodation students might get transportation, internet and other facilities than a private accommodation.

Transportation: A minimum charge of AED 2/- for public transport to travel anywhere in Dubai. Taxis charge you a fixed pick up rate and kilometer charge.

Shopping & Food: Dubai is a shopping city the expense depends upon your style of living – your taste in shopping, food and entertainments. You can bargain with most of the street vendors, the discount fares come with less rate and good shopping experience.

Before selecting university or college in UAE Dubai/Abu Dhabi or in any other emirates, you are requested to check the affiliations and reputation of the college, i am trying to list few top colleges and universities which is highly recommended and other colleges as well

Dear Nahal,

It’s a wise decision in my opinion. I did my Masters from University of Wollongong in Dubai and was working with a company as Senior HR Officer. If I say, it’s a best place than any other country for a student. I hope you are looking for a PG course. Here most of the Universities have classes in the evening that also once or twice in a week. So you get enough time to work and save.

UAE is a place where you get maximum exposure and you get better placement. Until 2007 last, UAE labor law allowed students to work on student visa. Law was allowed to do internships and part time jobs. Most of the students were doing fulltime junior positions on student visa. Now the rule has changed, students are not allowed to work legally in UAE. But we can see so many companies call students visa for fresher positions. But if labor catches that anyone work on another visa other than employment will be fined to the company. But it’s happening very rarely. You don’t need to worry about it because students are allowed to search for a job and if you are placed then visa can be transferred to employment. Student visa is a transferable visa.

About Universities there are lot many universities you can see in internet. University Of Wollongong in Dubai, where I studied, you get a good experience and a quality of education. And the University is giving chances for students to work with them. If you need any assistance for admission or more information about the admission procedure, feel free to contact me.

The following are some Universities in Dubai;

University of Wollongong www.uowdubai.ac.ae

American University in Dubai www.aud.edu

The British University in Dubai www.buid.ac.ae

Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani www.bitsdubai.com

European University College Brussels www.ehsal-dubai.net

UAE University www.uaeu.ac.ae

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology www.szabist.edu.pk/

Hope this information would help you.

Good luck.

Student Visa and Labour law UAE
by Archana » Wednesday, 30th September 2009 05:27 am

Student Visa and Labour law UAE
All visas in UAE are easier to get if you pass medical test. For getting a student visa you must satisfy the requirements of concern University. The requirements for student’s visa might be different depending upon the university. But it isn't hard to get a student visa because you are sponsored by university. Your University itself shall guide the information and requirements for visa.

A student can work in UAE but not on student visa. A student visa is transferable visa; it can easily transfer to employment. Some University allows students to start work only after first semester. To get a job is depends on your caliber and the University will give you full support. Most of the Universities in UAE have student service departments, Student Leadership Opportunities, Personal Counselling and career development sections etc to support students. As a student you must take the advantage of all support services from your university; it helps you to improve.

I'm interested in pursuing my career here in medicine
and i've heard RAK medical college is a very good option
I'm an indian...but then I've heard a lot of people and my friends saying that the medical studies here provided for a non-emirati citizen isin't good enough..and i might not be successful if i study over here...anything related to medicine...They are telling me to go to India and study over there...as it's better and the certificate has value.... I'm afraid that the certificate value over here...(as i've heard) isin't upto the mark as how it is if you study in India...
and i might not even get a job...if i go abroad
or even if i go to India

is that true?

Studies over here is ONLY and ONLY beneficial for the emirati citizens * when it comes to medical *
I don't want to study there..in India or abroad....I prefer studying over here...but I'm confused...
and I don't know what to do...
help please!

Hi Samia,
It's not difficult to get an admission for post graduate medical courses in UAE. But please keep in mind that you need to have 2 years of clinical experience to get the licence in UAE and to start a career. I knew few medical graduates (Expatiates) who find difficult to start a career after graduation from UAE due to the lack of experience. The other option is to work as clinical attachment after your graduation in UAE hospitals and to gain the experience to get the eligibility for licencing exams. I am not sure there is any payment attached with this clinical attachment.

Have a look at this link in this forum (Pls go through the post of drpari)
http://www.uaehrzone.com/forum/topic/36/MOH-DOH-GAHS-Exam-in-UAE-Dubai-and-Abu-Dhabi/4

Have a look at the below link as well
Medical Internship in Dubai or Dubai Residency Training Programme (DRTP), but note that priority is given to UAE Nationals and only vacant seats are pass to foreigners

Studying MBA in UAE is a good decision as you can work part time/full time and can support your studies. I knew few candidates who are really successful to get highly paid full time job while studying. The advantage in UAE is that you can easily convert your student visa to employment visa and most of the universities offer late evening classes.
I am not commenting any particular universities, please have a look at the above post of Ms. Archana and you can Google for more information to select a good school.

Hi Mana,
My reply is bit delayed hope you didn't take a decision. As you said its true that Medical courses is not that attractive in UAE because of many aspects. The certificates are valid but you may find difficult to start a career after your graduation. UAE have a licencing policy and you need to get licence to practice in UAE and 2 years clinical experience is a must for this. The other option is to work as clinical attachment after your graduation in UAE hospitals and to get the eligibility for licencing exams. I am not sure there is any payment attached with this clinical work.

I knew many doctors who find difficult to start their career and worked for 2 years with out pay to get the experience.

So research and learn more about UAE systems before taking a decision

A lot of people are working in UAE right now. By a lot means different people with different culture. This is because many companies from this country hire a lot of people. Skilled or semiskilled workers are welcome to these companies. One advantage of being a worker in UAE is that there is no need to pay tax with regarding to work. This will help you save a lot in your salary and will also give you the chance to be able to use the money for your wise expenses. In order to work in UAE, you will need two things. First, your labor card. And second, your residence visa. Of course, you will need to undergo medical examination. A successful medical examination is 100% assurance of acceptation in the desired work. If a labor card is issued, passports will be surrendered to the employer whereas residence visas can only be useful until you reach the age limit of 50. Renewing a residence visa requires three years and do not worry because it is easy to renew your residence visa.

For those who want to study in UAE, you will need to have a student visa. Before applying to any schools in UAE, research first all the schools so you will have all the information needed. If ever there are lacking information regarding the school, do not hesitate to ask for opinions or suggestions online or contact the school. Also, before processing any documents for your studies in UAE, you must be accepted first in the University that you want to apply to. Of course, you will need to have your own admission and be able to pass the requirements given by the desired University. Be able to bear in mind that some schools only admit UAE nationals so researching will be of a big help. Working and studying in UAE is not that hard nor easy. You will just need to pass all the given requirements and have the necessary documents needed in order to finalize your stay in the country.

Wih all the following mentioned, you must be able to go to UAE without any problems. Of course, you need to ask the higher authorities first before anything else. Working and studying in UAE is a good catch because you will be able to experience a different culture and meet different people that aren’t from your own country. Also the expense in this country such as food and transporation is not really of a big problem. It also has some of the best in the world such as hotels and countries. Shopping in UAE is also a great experience! Thus, working and studying in UAE is something that you can really look forward to because of the promising opportunities it can give to you.

Why work and study in UAE?
Something that you could just turn down at first proposal. Furthermore, we may not know it but UAE is one of the most promising countries nowadays especially that it has grown into a more developed country. There are a lot of people wanting to go to UAE because of the great potential to earn money. One good thing about this country is that employees will not have trouble in paying their tax because UAE doesn’t require employees to pay taxes. Advantage is not only given to those who want to work in UAE, students also have a big advantage because of the quality and expenses of education given in this amazing country.

Studying in UAE will not limit you to being a student alone. It can also give you a chance to work and have an income of your own. Moreover, you can do both at the same time. Study and work in UAE without having any problems on how you will fit your time to do both tiring tasks. You can attend evening classes while you use your time in the morning for work. As long as you pass your medical examination, your visa will not be rejected and you can be easily accepted by companies even if you only have a student visa. This is of course, unknown to the government of UAE.

There are many advantages while working and studying in UAE. First, expenses is not really of a problem. You can prove this by comparing the normal UAE student expenses to other countries nearby, including European and Asian countries. In addition, you will also get the rare experience of different culture. This will let you improve your adjusting and adapting skills in the long run which will be important because in the future, you will meet and greet different people from different places. Food and transportation is not something you will have to worry because the cost is very affordable and convenient. Many street vendors can be bargained whereas drivers of vehicles (e.g. taxi) have a fixed rate for their services. Generally, your accomodation is much more expensive compared to the following mentioned. It will be quite lucky of you if the University you are enrolling to will help you with your accomodation because in fact, there are some schools who offer this.

Usual requirements in order for you to qualify in a university in UAE includes filling up an application form and all related documents such as school and employment records. Also, you should be able to pay the required fees. Transcript is also asked. Of course, a good academic standard will make a good impression to the people who will assess your qualification. Some tests such as IELTS or TOEFL should also be taken (This is for Australians, Americans and people from UK). Recommendation laters are also highly recommended. Passing rates for exams as well as your passport is also a key for admission. There may be other requirements needed for working and studying in UAE so better research about it online or ask your relatives living in UAE for more information.

With over four million people for its population throughout its two hundred islands, UAE is considered as the third largest among the GCC states. These population is a combination with more than 8 different cultures and languages. Thus, this is one country which will reflect you with different people with different cultures. Working and studying in UAE will not be really that difficult but moreover, it will give you a lot of opportunities in order to improve yourself as an employee or a student.

Studying in UAE will make you process a number of documents. Also, acquiring a visa is also a bit hassle especially that the federation of UAE is more strict because a number of foreigners are coming into their country. If you are hired by a company from UAE, a certain person will organize and process all the documentations for you and assist you in every related tasks in order for you have to working and residence visa. If not, you should be able to manage your own processing as well as acquire your own working and residence visa. Bear in mind that once denied for access in the country, you may not be able to appeal again for acceptance, or there is little hope for any appeal. Also, be able to have these documents because these are requirements that you will need especially that if you’re in UAE already: valid passport for at least six months after date of entry, photographs which are passport sized (six or more), marriage certificate if you have a legal family of your own, birth certificate, and labor or tenancy contract. Also, when you are in UAE, some employers will actually ask you to surrender your passport. For that, be able to read and understand comprehensively your contract for your working issues.

Do not rush your decision in going to UAE in an instant. Be able to research about the University or company you’re going too. Also, do not process any documents already. For students, make sure you are accepted and admitted to the University. You may opt to have your own work given that you can manage to do both (studying and working) at the same time. For employees, you should be able to know or understand the terms and conditions for your work. Also, do not rely much on the people that will assist you. There are actually some people who will only use your money and instead of having a successful life in UAE, you will not be able to work at all and only have your money used in nothing.
Well, that is all the reminders for your plans in working and studying in UAE. This is really a good catch especially that the country is promising for workers and students. For workers, there are a lot of works offered without no taxes to pay. For students, you are exposed to a lot of people and culture making you able to adapt and improve your ownself. Thus, going to UAE to work or study is a very good consideration!

Great Opportunities at UAE

Food. Hotels. Transportation. All for a great quality at minimum expense! This is what is offered for those who have plans in working and studying in UAE. Other than that, there are also many opportunities awaiting for those who want to work at this beautiful country. A lot of companies are accepting workers even if they aren’t a national of the country. As for students, there are numerous universities that cater to different scholarship as well as give good and high quality of education for their students.

What is great about in UAE is that it is a country with many combinations of culture. Many people are going to this country and it is whether because they want to have work, or study or even just tour around and see what this country is really made of. Because of this, different people mingle around with each other which causes to have their relationships and culture flourished. Working and studying in UAE will expose you to a combined culture from the different people living in UAE. It actually will let you improve your own adaptation and adjustment style. Thus, it will even help you to be a better person!

Workers love to go and work in UAE because of the numerous opportunities waiting for them. Companies are eager to accept many employees, either skilled or unskilled. There is nothing to worry especially that workers in UAE do not worry about tax unlike in other countries. A lot of work offers is also offered so better choose wisely what kind of work you will apply for. Just apply for a residence and working visa and you’re ready to go to UAE!

As for students, they have a great chance in having a good experience with just not only their studies but also for work. A working student is actually possible in this country. For their education system, UAE has its own primary and secondary curriculum for their education system. The difference between the two is that the primary education curriculum focuses on skills such as literacy and mathematics. Basics such as Math, Science and Language is the primary focus of this curriculum whereas secondary is more on the preparation for their students for the higher challenge (e.g., College, Technical or Vocational courses, Professional work). In UAE, many students prefer universities rather than technical or vocational courses. Just make your own research to know the specifics for each schools so that you may be able to distinguish which school is which. Do not forget to be admitted to the school and have your own student visa first before processing any necessary documents.

Just be sure that you have your own passport and visas applicable for your stay, either student or working. Also, be sure that you are really accepted in the school or work that you have applied for because there are some problems regarding unofficial acceptance from any companies and schools. Wait for the go-signal before doing any processing of documents. Lastly, research is a really big help so you’ll end up in good hands in UAE.

Those who endure going to school full time and working full time know the stress of never having enough time or enough money for anything beyond school or work. They also know though that they are looking forward to career advancement or personal fulfillment when they are able to graduate as a result of their own hard work and dedication.
