Work and study in UAE- Colleges/Courses in UAE

Re: Work and study in UAE- Colleges/Courses in UAE
by ula » Thursday, 8th September 2011 04:45 am

Hi,

I am just wondering, hope somebody will give me some information..
Where is the best place to study Health and Social Care or related courses in Dubai? I am thinking about English/international schools as I heard the fees might be lower there...

I am currently going to start my studies in the UK but in the future I might want to move my credits to Dubai. Is there any possibility to do so?

Thank you for your help!
U.

Work and Study (Undergrad course) in Abu Dhabi
by gonzrule » Saturday, 10th September 2011 03:48 am

Hi!

I am planning to take additional course (further my education), preferably Business Administration.
I am currently searching for a good institution here in Abu Dhabi, one which I can afford, or at least offers night/evening classes.

I am currently employed as a Public Relations Officer in a hospital in Abu Dhabi, and I am under employment visa sponsored by my Hospital. I hold a bachelor's degree in Nursing, which I acquired in the Philippines. My Diploma and Transcript of Record are both attested by our (Philippines) Foreign Affairs Department. And I am seriously considering pursuing a career in business administration or the Human Resources.

My questions are?
1. What university here in Abu Dhabi offers evening classes (2 to 3 times per week)? I would like to study part time.
2. What are the most reputable educational institutions here in Abu Dhabi that offers the most affordable/most reasonable tuition prices?
3. Do I need to obtain a student visa? My employment is sponsored by my employer.
4. What are the usual requirements in order for me be admitted to a university?
5. Is there any institution in Abu Dhabi that offers scholarship to those willing to further their education?

Thank you so much in advance!

P.S. I am new in the UAE, and so I have yet to familiariaze myself with the system of the UAE.

Student Visa and Labour law UAE
All visas in UAE are easier to get if you pass medical test. For getting a student visa you must satisfy the requirements of concern University. The requirements for student’s visa might be different depending upon the university. But it isn't hard to get a student visa because you are sponsored by university. Your University itself shall guide the information and requirements for visa.

A student can work in UAE but not on student visa. A student visa is transferable visa; it can easily transfer to employment. Some University allows students to start work only after first semester. To get a job is depends on your caliber and the University will give you full support. Most of the Universities in UAE have student service departments, Student Leadership Opportunities, Personal Counselling and career development sections etc to support students. As a student you must take the advantage of all support services from your university; it helps you to improve.

Hi Archana ! it seems you got experience concerning life in uae. i've applied for short courses at skyline university sharjah but they said they dont offer visa for short courses. my sister lives in abu dhabi. do you think i might have troubles if she sponsors me for visit visa and i register once i get there ? i'll need at least 4 months to finish the courses... can my sister renew the visa for 4 months ?

Study and Work in Dubai/UAE

Welcome to Dubai” the most exciting city of Desert”.

Beforehand people were rushing to Dubai only for job because of the potential to earn money than other countries. Dubai always welcomes skilled and semiskilled workers to its core. After education most of the engineers or MBA’s fly to Dubai to search for a job. And there was a trend to finish basic education and move to UAE and get a driver’s license from there. UAE Driving license is an advantage in some jobs and for sales job, it is necessary.

Now this trend turned to” work and study in Dubai”. New generation has realized the opportunities of a student in Dubai. The Universities in Dubai is located in Knowledge Village and Academic City. Many recognized universities are there, American University and University of Wollongong (Australian University in Dubai) are the famous and two attractive foreign Universities in Dubai.

Till 2007, UAE govt. was allowing students to work full time but now the rule has been changed. Now student visa holders are not allowed to work in UAE, there are lot many companies recruiting students for internships. But there are companies employing students visa holders without the knowledge of government. An advantage for a student is he/she can apply for a job on student visa and can attend the interviews. If selected by the company, the labour department or University will not be against to change your student visa to employment. There is no chance for rejection of your visa if your medical is success. Another advantage of studying in Dubai/UAE is most of the colleges have evening classes and it is easy to balance the work and study.

Advantages of Studying in Dubai

Expense: Expense of a student is very less as compared to Europe or other Asian countries as well as you gain a recognized certificate and quality of education with great experience of multi culture.

Accommodation: It’s the most expensive than other living expenses such as food and transport. Still a student can manage it through sharing accommodation (share with family accommodation or share with friends or you can go for bed space, which costs less). The rental range may depend upon the location and number of people sharing the accommodation. Most of the Universities in UAE are providing accommodation for students but rent is higher as compared to outside anyhow through college accommodation students might get transportation, internet and other facilities than a private accommodation.

Transportation: A minimum charge of AED 2/- for public transport to travel anywhere in Dubai. Taxis charge you a fixed pick up rate and kilometer charge.

Shopping & Food: Dubai is a shopping city the expense depends upon your style of living – your taste in shopping, food and entertainments. You can bargain with most of the street vendors, the discount fares come with less rate and good shopping experience.

I hold a masters degree in Biotechnology, from India, and I'm planning to visit Dubai maybe at the end of the month of August. While there for a job is it possible to enroll in an evening college or a college or university that offers courses part time? I would like to go on for another masters degree in Zoology (or a related life science course) ?
I'd be more than glad if you could get me some details about the colleges and universities that are offering a course mentioned above.
Thank you in advance

Hi Samia,
It's not difficult to get an admission for post graduate medical courses in UAE. But please keep in mind that you need to have 2 years of clinical experience to get the licence in UAE and to start a career. I knew few medical graduates (Expatiates) who find difficult to start a career after graduation from UAE due to the lack of experience. The other option is to work as clinical attachment after your graduation in UAE hospitals and to gain the experience to get the eligibility for licencing exams. I am not sure there is any payment attached with this clinical attachment.

i graduated bachelor of computer Science from sharjah skyline university in year 2005, and have a big gap to continue now for master degree and almost forgot anything i learnt since no more educational contacts and no jobs. (i guess i need a foundation class before starting)

as per my long leave, i appreciate anybody's help to give me options and advices on where and what subject to study for start!

i checked wolleng gong university already but they didn't have an IT related post graduate program for me, then considered the two IT related subjects in Harriot Watt University so far, and no idea where else i can start with, since hard to find post graduate program which is not business/marketing/tourism ... etc.

Hello,

This post has been very helpful, however, i still have some confusion. I have done my BS in communication design and want to do Master in either Media and communication management or Master in strategic Marketing. Means, I want to expand my possibilities of working in advertising or retail sector. I have two options ; First is that should i enroll in Master programe without any working experience get into universities i.e University of wollogong/ Middlesex/Szabist and search job while studying? Or from Karachi Pakistan while having working experience? Can i get work while studying in Dubai? If i go for first option, I want to be sure if universities help you to find par time or full time work as the classes start in evening? Or if i go to second option how much chances will i have getting job with Master degree with one yr work experience? I have been to Dubai many times but have no idea of work market there. I will be very thankful if the admin of post highlight on my case.

Thanks
Maria

any good universities and i also wanna work part time too
So plz let me know at the earliest
thanks.

Studying MBA in UAE is a good decision as you can work part time/full time and can support your studies. I knew few candidates who are really successful to get highly paid full time job while studying. The advantage in UAE is that you can easily convert your student visa to employment visa and most of the universities offer late evening classes.
I am not commenting any particular universities, please have a look at the above post of Ms. Archana and you can Google for more information to select a good school.
. . I have read this. . . Am too want to do mba. . Is there any possibilities for studying in M.B.A. . Please give me further details. .

Dear Nahal,

It’s a wise decision in my opinion. I did my Masters from University of Wollongong in Dubai and was working with a company as Senior HR Officer. If I say, it’s a best place than any other country for a student. I hope you are looking for a PG course. Here most of the Universities have classes in the evening that also once or twice in a week. So you get enough time to work and save.

UAE is a place where you get maximum exposure and you get better placement. Until 2007 last, UAE labor law allowed students to work on student visa. Law was allowed to do internships and part time jobs. Most of the students were doing fulltime junior positions on student visa. Now the rule has changed, students are not allowed to work legally in UAE. But we can see so many companies call students visa for fresher positions. But if labor catches that anyone work on another visa other than employment will be fined to the company. But it’s happening very rarely. You don’t need to worry about it because students are allowed to search for a job and if you are placed then visa can be transferred to employment. Student visa is a transferable visa.

About Universities there are lot many universities you can see in internet. University Of Wollongong in Dubai, where I studied, you get a good experience and a quality of education. And the University is giving chances for students to work with them. If you need any assistance for admission or more information about the admission procedure, feel free to contact me.

The following are some Universities in Dubai;

University of Wollongong www.uowdubai.ac.ae

American University in Dubai www.aud.edu

The British University in Dubai www.buid.ac.ae

Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani www.bitsdubai.com

European University College Brussels www.ehsal-dubai.net

UAE University www.uaeu.ac.ae

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology www.szabist.edu.pk/

Hope this information would help you.

Good luck.
