International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is for students and professionals you wish to study or work in countries like Australia, UK, Canada, European countries. Today many countries recognise IELTS score for admission to the students and for Work/migration.

There are two types of IELTS test: Academic and General Training. These tests are held in many centres (over 500 worldwide). IELTS test are made up of four part Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with the examiner and depends on your communication skills and English usage you are given the grade.

The test covers the full range of ability from non-user to expert user indicated with 0-9 band.
You are not limited and can sit for IELTS till you get your intended score.

IELTS is managed by three international organisations:
• British Council, IDP
• IELTS Australia
• University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL).

IELTS score is recognised by more than 6000 organisations, and these includes many government departments, universities, colleges and schools.

IELTS Academic – For Higher Education
Students need to get required score for admission in universities and colleges. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of the Academic test in most of the institutions.

IELTS General Training – for school, work or migration
The IELTS General Training focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts. This test is for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do secondary education, work experience, Migration or training programs. People migrating to specific countries must sit for IELTS General exam.

IELTS Exam centres in UAE (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah)
IELTS Exam centres are in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. You can go to any of these centres for the registration of exam. You need to bring two recent passport size photographs with your original passport for the registration. The photographs must not older than not older than 6 months and without glasses.

Documents required for IELTS exam UAE
Candidates who are employed or Resident of UAE can register with the labour card and with a copy of your passport instead of original passport. Note that registration has to be done 5 weeks before the test date.
Please note that from 1st January 2010 the IELTS Centre will not be able to accept photographs showing candidates wearing glasses. This is to comply with IELTS regulations.

IELTS Test Schedule in UAE
The Listening, reading and writing is held on Saturdays and Thursdays and the IELTS speaking test can be held 7 days before or after the main test date.

IELTS Test Fee in UAE
The IELTS test fee is AED 850 and overseas candidates, who wish to pay by demand draft must include a surcharge of AED 80)

An admission notice will be issued to candidates 7 to 10 days before the main exam date with details on the venue of the main exam and speaking test date.

IELTS Exam Cancellation and Postponement in UAE

Cancellation and Postponement of IELTS exam and application in UAE

The application for cancellation or postponement of IELTS exam must be received no later than 5 weeks before the test date. An administration fee applies to cancellations or test date changes.


There will not be any refund of exam fees requesting postponement or cancellation within 5 weeks of the test date.

If the Candidates who are absent for the test due to illness or serious cause should submit a supporting documentation to the IELTS administrator in person no later than 5 days after the test date for the refund.

British Council in UAE offers various courses in English including IELTS preparation courses Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

English Courses last for 36-hour teaching session on the duration of six weeks or four weeks for intensive courses.
A 36 hour course costs 2050 AED (2100 AED for an IELTS course).
