A majority of companies in the Gulf region are not in a hiring freeze, with nearly 50 percent of recruiters saying new jobs will be created in the next six months, a new survey shows.

Employment wesbite NaukriGulf.com's survey showed that most of the 140 recruiters it talked shared "positive hiring sentiment", UAE daily Emirates Business reported on Wednesday.

The study said 48 percent of the respondents believed there will be new jobs in the next six months, one in four said replacement hiring will happen. Just over one in five said there will be no hiring while only 4 percent indicated layoffs.

"In the current scenario, contradictory to current belief that most companies are not hiring, 51 percent of the total respondents said hiring was not frozen in their companies," the survey said.

But compensation is expected to fall more with 35 percent of survey respondents saying they have cut bonuses.
