Dubai: The unemployment rate in the UAE will not increase in the light of the global financial crisis, the Minister of Labour said at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) summit on the global jobs crisis, which concluded yesterday in Geneva.
 
Saqr Gobash said in his address to the 98th session of the ILO conference on Tuesday evening the rate of unemployment in the UAE workforce will not increase, but there will be "a slowdown in the rate of new workers arriving".
 
This will be coupled with a slight increase in the number of those who leave the country on completion of projects for which they were brought to the UAE, he said.
