ABU DHABI — The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has instructed all companies to abide by the Wages Protection System (WPS), which includes the mandatory transfer of salaries through banks, from January 1, 2010.
The ministry warned that companies that do not follow the rule would risk penalties, including a freeze on all kinds of work permits.
The Acting Director-General in the Minstry of Labour, Humaid bin Deemas, said in the past fortnight the ministry had sent reminders to companies employing 100 or more workers regarding implementation of the Wages Protection System and the transfer of wages through banks.
He pointed out that the registration system for the procedure to work out is for a company to have a link with a bank or any financial institution approved by the Central Bank for salary transfer purposes.
Bin Deemas said the expenses incurred on regularising the salary transfer procedure is the responsibility of the employer, and not of the employees.
