Firms in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) topped the list of 25 companies caught in violation of the summer midday break rule implemented for blue collared workers by the Ministry of Labour (MoL).
Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director General at the ministry told the local Arabic daily Al Bayan at a MoL open day in Abu Dhabi, that total of 73 companies across the country has been found violating the summer midday break in the first five days of the implementation of the rule. Companies who violate the midday rule will be fined Dh 10,000 each.
Providing a breakdown in the number of companies found defying the rule from each emirate, Bin Deemas said inspection teams from the MoL are quite strict in the implementation of the summer midday break rule and will not tolerate any violations or allow any exemptions.
There were 11 companies from Abu Dhabi, 3 in Sharjah, 7 in Ajman, 1 in Umm Al Quwain, 18 in Dubai and 8 in Fujairah. There were no violating companies in Al Ain.
An estimated two million workers in the UAE construction sector will be benefiting from the summer midday break rule from 12:30pm to 3pm. The rule which is in its fifth year is enforced from July 1 and will run until August 31.
