Dubai: UAE Workers who have a labour case at court can apply for a temporary work permit at the Ministry of Labour until a verdict is issued, said a senior ministry official.
Humaid Bin Deemas, acting director-general at the Ministry of Labour, has called on workers who have a labour case in court to approach the ministry to apply for a temporary work permit as to avoid being unemployed during the period of court procedures.
"Workers with court cases should not stay without a job until the verdict is issued but should approach us and we will look into the case and grant them a temporary work permit," said Bin Deemas
"Although any employer has the right to protect the interest of his business and file a court case for breach of trust, at the same time the workers' right also needs to be protected and a worker who has a malicious case registered against him or her must also be compensated for the damage caused," Bin Deemas told a press gathering following the open day.
"The judicial principle is that the suspect is guilty until he or she has proven innocent, so why should then we treat them as guilty before the verdict is issued? Therefore we should give temporary work permits," added Bin Deemas.
